AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, said the proposed gun control legislation being debated in the Senate must be rejected. "I will NEVER support ANY violation of your 2nd Amendment rights," Jackson, who represents District 13, said in a tweet. "What’s being proposed in the Senate is a DISGRACE. It MUST be rejected!!"
On Sunday, the Senate announced a bipartisan gun deal in response to the deadly school shooting in Uvalde.
The compromise – proposed by a group of 20 senators, comprised of 10 Democrats and 10 Republicans – would make the juvenile records of gun buyers under age 21 available when they undergo background checks. The suspects who authorities say killed 10 people at a grocery store in Buffalo and 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde were both 18 years old, and many of the attackers who have committed mass shootings in recent years have been young.
