Welcome to ‘de-funded police’: Las Vegas Metro PD Cold Case Sex Assault Unit could be slashed.

LAS VEGAS, NV – It could have been officer error in dealing with the chain of custody; a district attorney who did not prosecute; a DNA testing backlog, or a witness becoming unavailable. There are many reasons a sexual assault case could go cold.

KNTV Nevada reports that just when the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Cold Case Sex Assault Unit is firing on all eight cylinders, a funding issue may shut them down for good.  Officers and victims alike hope that is not the case.

There is no statute of limitations on felony rape cases; some are solved months, years, and even decades after the crime.
