Chicagoland: County approves taxes on guns, ammo after Illinois Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional

COOK COUNTY, IL – The Cook County Board of Commissioners enacted a tax on the purchase of firearms within the county of $25.

In 2015, the Board of Commissioners added a tax to the purchase of ammunition within its borders for five cents per round.

Problem was, that tax was found to infringe upon the second amendment rights so the Supreme Court in Illinois ruled it unconstitutional.

In a ruling on October 21st, the high court of Illinois decided on a case that was brought before them regarding the taxation on guns and ammunition in Cook County.
