Gov. Kristi Noem is all that stands between South Dakota and a new "Stand Your Ground" law.
Second Amendment buffs and firearms advocates are lauding the Legislature for giving final passage Monday to House Bill 1212, which calls for the repeal of South Dakota's century-old self-defense laws with a new statute that mirrors other states where the controversial law is already in effect.
After the Senate Judiciary Committee last week voted down the bill with a 4-2 vote, Big Stone City Sen. John Wiik successfully revived the measure through a procedural move called a "smoke out" on the Senate floor.
And Monday, 20 other members of the Senate joined Wiik in carrying the bill out of the Legislature and to the governor's desk.
