The Washington Supreme Court ruled today that the City of Edmonds' gun storage ordinance – which says firearms must be stored safely and away from unauthorized hands – is preempted by state law.
It was a unanimous decision, led by Chief Justice Steven C. Gonzalez.
The ruling seems to signal the final blow for Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson, who as a councilmember in July 2018 announced he would submit legislation requiring the safe storage of firearms in the city.
