NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Tennessee lawmaker has submitted legislation which would allow Tennesseans to carry firearms without a concealed carry permit.
HB0018 is sponsored by Representative Bruce Griffey (R-District 75). The bill would allow open or concealed carry to those who legally own firearms in the state but don't have a concealed permit.
FOX 17 News spoke with Rep. Griffey, the lawmaker saying the bill would make Tennessee a true Constitutional Carry state.
"It is more than abundantly clear that criminals will continue to illegally obtain firearms and threaten the lives and safety of law abiding Tennesseans," Rep. Griffey said. "I therefore see no logical reason why law abiding Tennesseans should face possible criminal persecution for possessing a firearm consistent with their rights under the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and Section 26 of the Tennessee Constitution for their own safety and the safety of others."
